SERIES DIRECTOR, ANIMATION

If you like to work in a dynamic, creative, nimble environment this is the role for you! Reporting to the VP Creative Franchise Strategy, Wind Sun Sky Entertainment is hiring an experienced Comedy Series Director to join our animation team at our Vancouver-based studio.

A multi-faceted role, the right candidate will work on multiple projects across various IPs and platforms with a focus on the comedy space. We are looking for an energetic, proactive communicator who likes to push their creative boundaries, enjoys the challenge of developing and working in new pipelines, and knows how to keep their creative teams motivated and on track.

The ideal candidate for this position has a demonstrated ability to tell entertaining stories in both the kids 8 – 12 and 14+ space, has the skill and desire to work with different pipelines, and has experience in digital short-form content.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Project Oversight
  • Creatively manage content from development through production
  • Ensure all elements produced meet show technical standards, and adhere to digital file naming protocols
  • Review animation to ensure creative is achievable within the schedule and budget
  • With production and pipeline teams, continuously strategize ways to simplify the production process and improve workflows
• Story Development
  • Collaborate with writers, development executives and producers to develop stories for various properties
  • Actively participate in brainstorming sessions
  • Work with the writing team to incorporate and shape ideas
• Leadership
  • Inspire creative team to produce innovative content and engaging stories
  • Provide vision, feedback, motivation and support to the team
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and training as necessary
  • Support the team through the feedback process
• Directing
  • Bring the project’s vision from page to screen
  • Create visual shot lists and/or storyboards that reflect the script and deliver the emotional, action and comedic intent of scenes/sequences
  • Contribute character concept designs and story moments to help define and realize project creative
  • Collaborate with Art and Production teams to breakdown scripts and determine assets to be created
  • Collaborate with Editor from animatic through to delivery

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Excellent working knowledge of Animation pipelines, Storyboard Pro, Premiere Pro, and previous experience in short-form content as a storyboard artist and/or director is required. Shotgrid knowledge, marketing knowledge, and an understanding of the digital space a plus.
